A Guide to Window Treatments

Tips for Treating Your Windows

Summer is the perfect time to make some exciting and dramatic changes around your home. Believe it or not, you can do this on a shoestring budget, with a little imagination and creativity. You’ll be thrilled with the results you can have with something new and different.

Have Your Windows Cleaned Up and Spotless

Before you begin your quest for the perfect window treatment, you’ll want to start with clean windows. Clear Cut Window Cleaning is a company you can trust to get them spotless and streak-free.

Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the surrounding area have water containing minerals that can cause windows to streak. So if you're considering washing your windows at home, the task can become tricky to do correctly. When we wash windows, we use water that’s been purified through our HydroTube portable water purifier. The purified water cleans better, leaving a spotless, streak-free surface that stays cleaner longer. Our window washing cleaners are toxin-free and safe for the environment. Because we only use pure water for cleaning, our cleaning products don’t contain harsh chemicals that might otherwise be used for reducing streaks and spots. Your windows will have a naturally clean, streak-free appearance.

Then Get Them Dressed!

Now that your windows are thoroughly cleaned, it’s time to get them dressed! Regular curtains are okay, but that’s more like the jeans-and-tee-shirt outfit of window wear. You’re going for an uplifting change that makes a statement. You get to decide how quiet or bold that statement will be.

You can choose a new treatment with curtains or drapes by adding a valence or dramatic draping. Perhaps something more conservative is to your liking, new drapes or curtains in a different color or pattern. Or, you can go in a completely different direction and experiment with unusual ideas. Only your imagination can set the limit on the possibilities.

Textures

Fabrics come in a multitude of textures; you may find changing the texture of your current window treatment is all it takes to produce a different feeling in your room. As an example, the natural look and feel of burlap can make a room look organic and earthy. A burlap window treatment would be great for a family room. Linen is another natural fabric that lends itself well to beautiful window treatments. Don’t want to sew? No problem! There are plenty of ways to dress up a window without going near a sewing machine.

Painted Curtains

Change plain curtains into something amazing with a bit of paint and a brush. You can stencil designs, paint stripes, or get creative in other ways. Spruce up the old curtains you already have or purchase an inexpensive set to work on. Either way, the end result will be something you can be proud of.

Let the kids get in on the fun, too! Let them make hand and footprints on curtains for their rooms. Imagine how cute that will be! As they get older, their curtains can go from being something practical to something special.

Non-Curtain Treatments

You don’t have to have curtains to dress up a window. A little time on the Internet will reveal a wealth of ideas for very unique window treatments for every style and taste. From indoor shutters to decorating with hanging mason jars, you’ll find something that will get your own creative juices flowing. Consider a living curtain – plants of all kinds growing around the window area. If you don’t have a green thumb, stenciling the window with an intricate design may interest you.

Don’t be afraid to try something new. If you don’t like the effect, you can always change it to something else. Let your windows speak your language. Clear Cut Window Cleaning will get them in pristine condition. We leave it to you to get them dressed!
